We know destination weddings come with lots of questions, and we've done our best to cover everything here. If something's still on your mind, don't hesitate to reach out on our Contact page. We're happy to help!
Wedding Weekend
The dress code varies by event, and we've put thought into making each one feel distinct:
Friday Welcome Celebration, Resort Chic: Think warm earth tones, soft linens, and understated elegance. Imagine the palette of a South of France evening: sand, taupe, olive, cream, terracotta, and dusty rose. Relaxed but refined, the kind of outfit that looks effortless but feels intentional.
Saturday Ceremony, Black Tie: This is the formal affair. Floor-length gowns, tuxedos, dark suits, and your most elegant evening wear. The Breakers is a breathtaking setting and we want everyone to feel as glamorous as the venue.
Saturday Reception, Black Tie or Traditional Attire: For the reception and dance floor, we'd love to celebrate our Nigerian and Ethiopian roots. If you have traditional attire, whether it's agbada, habesha kemis, ankara, or any cultural dress meaningful to you, we warmly encourage you to wear it. This is a celebration of love and heritage, and nothing would make us happier than seeing our cultures represented. Of course, your black tie look is equally welcome all evening.
Palm Beach in September is warm and humid (around 88°F), so lightweight fabrics are your friend. And if you're wearing heels for the outdoor portions, consider block heels or wedges for the lawn areas.
We've done our best to include everyone we love! Your invitation will specify if you have a plus one. Look for "and Guest" on the envelope. Due to venue capacity at The Breakers, we're unfortunately unable to accommodate additional guests beyond those named on the invitation.
If you're unsure about your invitation details or have a special circumstance, please reach out to us through the Contact page and we'll sort it out together.
The ceremony begins at 4:00 PM sharp on Saturday, so we recommend arriving by 3:30 PM to get settled. There will be signage and staff to guide you to the ceremony location once you arrive at The Breakers. Cocktail hour follows immediately after at 5:00 PM, so you won't have to go far!
While we adore your little ones, our wedding celebration will be an adults-only affair so that everyone (especially parents!) can relax and enjoy the evening. If you need help arranging childcare in Palm Beach, we're happy to share some trusted local babysitting services. Just ask us via the Contact page.
The Saturday ceremony will be held outdoors on the beautiful Breakers grounds (weather permitting), with the cocktail hour and reception moving indoors to one of the resort's grand ballrooms. The Friday welcome celebration location will be confirmed closer to the date. Don't worry; we have gorgeous indoor backup plans in case September weather has other ideas!
Travel
We strongly recommend flying into Palm Beach International Airport (PBI). It's by far the most convenient option, just a quick 15-minute drive to The Breakers. It's a smaller, easy-to-navigate airport with plenty of direct flights from major cities.
If you can't find a good flight into PBI, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) is about an hour's drive, and Miami International (MIA) is roughly 1.5 hours away. Both are larger airports with more flight options, but you'll want to factor in South Florida traffic, especially on a Friday afternoon.
Check out our Travel page for more details on ground transportation from each airport.
Not necessarily! If you're staying at The Ben (our hotel block), there's a complimentary Bruno cart shuttle service that runs between The Ben and The Breakers, so you'll be covered for all wedding events. Uber and Lyft are also widely available in Palm Beach.
That said, if you're planning to explore the area (Worth Avenue shopping, beach hopping, day trips to Delray or Jupiter), a rental car gives you the most flexibility. Parking at The Breakers is complimentary valet for wedding guests.
We'd love to have you for the full weekend! The festivities kick off Friday evening (September 18) with the Welcome Celebration at 7:00 PM, so we recommend arriving Friday afternoon at the latest. The main event is Saturday, so if you can only make it for part of the weekend, we'd be thrilled to have you there. A Sunday departure works well for most guests.
Where to Stay
Yes! We've reserved room blocks at two beautiful Marriott Bonvoy properties just minutes from The Breakers:
The Belgrove Resort & Spa, a brand-new Autograph Collection resort with rooms starting at $199/night. The Ben West Palm, a stylish boutique hotel in downtown West Palm Beach with rooms starting at $309/night (resort fee waived). The Ben also offers a complimentary Bruno cart shuttle between the hotel and The Breakers, so you won't need to worry about driving or parking.
Head over to our Stay page for full details and rates. To book, call either hotel directly and ask for the Gurmu & Ekwueme Wedding Block. We recommend booking early, rooms are limited!
No worries. Palm Beach has wonderful hotel options at every price point. You can also book directly at The Breakers itself if you'd like to stay right at the venue (no room block, but September rates are more reasonable). Check our Stay page for all the details, and don't hesitate to reach out if you need help finding the right fit.
Palm Beach & Logistics
September in Palm Beach is warm and tropical. Expect average highs around 88°F (31°C) with humidity. Afternoon rain showers are common but usually brief, and evenings cool down to a pleasant 75–78°F. It's a beautiful time to be in South Florida!
One thing to be aware of: September falls within Atlantic hurricane season. We're keeping a close eye on forecasts and will communicate promptly if any weather concerns arise. Rest assured, The Breakers has excellent contingency plans and we have beautiful indoor backup options for every event.
Packing tip: bring sunscreen, a light layer for air-conditioned spaces, and a small umbrella just in case.
So much! Palm Beach is a gem. We've put together a whole guide on our Explore Palm Beach page with our favorite spots, from the Flagler Museum (a Gilded Age mansion you have to see) to Worth Avenue shopping, gorgeous beaches, incredible restaurants, and the Norton Museum of Art. Whether you want to relax by the ocean or explore the island's history and culture, there's something for everyone.
Palm Beach is in the Eastern Time zone (ET). In September, we'll be on Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), which is UTC-4. All event times on this website are listed in Eastern Time.
Food & Dietary
Absolutely! We want everyone to enjoy the meal. The Breakers' culinary team is wonderful about accommodating dietary needs. When you fill out your RSVP, you'll be able to select your meal preference (including vegetarian and vegan options) and note any specific dietary restrictions or allergies.
If you have a severe allergy or very specific dietary need, please mention it in the RSVP form's dietary restrictions field and we'll make sure the kitchen is fully prepared for you.
Yes! The Saturday reception will feature a full open bar with premium spirits, wine, beer, and a signature cocktail that we're very excited about (stay tuned for the reveal!). Non-alcoholic options including mocktails, sodas, and sparkling water will also be available throughout the evening.
The Breakers is known for exceptional dining, and we're working with their culinary team to create a menu that's elegant and approachable. Expect a plated multi-course dinner for the Saturday reception with options for different dietary preferences. Friday's welcome celebration will feature passed hors d'oeuvres and small plates. Trust us, you won't go hungry!
